Join us June 8-10, 2018 at the Iowa City Municipal Airport (IOW) for a celebration of the many firsts in the airport’s storied past, as well as the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

Recall the energy, passion, and excitement of the Roaring ’20s by flying aboard the Ford Tri-Motor. Known as the first luxury airliner, the Ford Tri-Motor redefined world travel and marked the beginning of commercial flight. All ticket proceeds support the Experimental Aircraft Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing aviation. The Tri-Motor tour stops are hosted by volunteers who are passionate about sharing the Ford Tri-Motor’s stories. To learn more about the Ford Tri-Motor, please visit the EAA’s official site.

“Scooter” returns to barnstorming each spring in his 4-passenger 1929 New Standard D25. With thousands of hours in vintage aircraft, Ted Davis is sought out by aircraft owners from all across the globe to restore and test-fly their valuable planes. But don’t let his laid-back Midwestern charm fool you because behind those brilliant blue eyes lies a modern day “Air Devil.” To learn more, please visit their official site.

Iowa City Airport The Children's Museum BubblesThe Iowa Children’s Museum will provide some illuminating activities and games to prepare for the Hot Air Balloon Glow! These include Glow Balloons, Parachute Play and Hula Hoops!  To learn more, please visit their official site.

Give your young aspiring aviators the experience of a lifetime – their first airplane ride. Experienced local pilots will give free rides in general aviation planes to kids ages 8 to 17 at the Young Eagles Flight Rally to help introduce young people to aviation. A parent or guardian must provide signed permission before the flights. After the flight, the child will receive a certificate and be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook”. Jet Air CessnaAs dusk begins to settle and transforms into night, watch the sunset from the sky. Jet Air is offering rides in their passenger Cessna over the Iowa City area for a wonderful view of the city. To learn more about Jet Air, please visit their official site.

Balloon glow with 3 hot air balloons lighting up Beginning around dusk, the skies will be lit up by the wondrous glow of hot air balloons. Once the balloons are filled, patrons will be able to meet the pilots and get up close to the balloons.

Create a paper rocket that you can launch! Discover how to make the perfect bubble with recycled materials and practice your balancing skills with Giant Jenga. Drone racing has become a popular sport in the last few years. Utilizing video goggles, racers are able to fly through an obstacle course, trying to outmatch their opponents. We’ll be hosting hands-on demonstrations and VR experiences throughout the day to help raise awareness in the community.

Explore the history of aviation with planes spanning the twentieth century and beyond. Displays will include planes from WW2, modern warbirds, and a variety of  recreational and home-built aircraft. look at the planes, talk to the pilots, and learn more about the importance of each aircraft.
